Lymphoma - 74-year-old male

Initial History
74-year-old male with history of prostrate cancer. Recent chest x-ray demonstrates a mediastinal mass. Patient presents for workup and staging of lymphoma.

Initial Staging PET Findings
There is intense FDG metabolism within the mediastinum. This activity corresponds to the mediastinal mass and mediastinal adenopathy as seen on recent CT scan. Findings would be consistent with lymphoma. Also, there is a single focus of FDG metabolism in the neck to the left of the midline involving the cervical chain anteriorly. This would be suspicious for additional disease. There was no increased metabolism below the diaphragm. The liver was homogeneous and the axillary regions were clear.

Dosage
14.15 mCi FDG

Re-staging History
The patient has a history of lymphoma and presented for re-staging one month post chemotherapy.

Re-staging PET Findings
Since the previous PET scan, there has been complete resolution of the abnormal uptake of radioactivity within the mediastinum, mass and the mediastinal lymph nodes. Additionally, the small focus of abnormal metabolic activity in the left neck has resolved and is no longer abnormal. There is a small focus of uptake radioactivity in the posteromedial aspect of the right lung. Correlation with the previous CT scan reveals that there is a focus of chronic parenchymal scarring in the location. The SUV value of the right posterior lung activity measures 4.4. There is normal distribution of radioactivity in the pharynx, liver, kidneys and urinary bladder.

Dosage
15.32 mCi FDG
